The Role Of Servant Leadership

The Role Of Servant Leadership

The question that comes to mind, is it necessary to change business models to compete in the New Normal. Many businesses large and small are likely to change to support the needs of the consumers and their expectations. Travel, Restaurants, Cruise Lines, Hotels, Airlines, Car Rentals have been decimated. The ability to achieve scale and make a reasonable profit will be completely different as the economy reopens. The Brick and Mortar businesses, corporate offices will change as the square footage needed to run a business will decrease dramatically as employees now will work from home vs the office I have worked in all my life. As the the economy reopens the need to tap into Change Agents will be critical to redesign, reinvent, plan and implement the NEW Business Models. The Servant Leader often has the Tool Box that will support the need to rethink the “Who/What/When” of the business. A Servant Leader that is a proven leader with the experience to lead teams through change and integrate Lean Manufacturing Processes (TPS) into the evolution of the business will yield many advantages for a business. Team Support, Training on the need to change. The value of Kanban and lower inventory levels. SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) to facilitate setups in minutes vs hours and the impact on inventory to generate cash flow, smaller lot sizes, one-piece flow and on-time deliveries. Typically these processes will improve internal quality, PPM Drops and First Time Yield will increase. These changes create a competitive business model. Most small businesses will struggle with this thought process because they have yet to see this change in their business in the past. Many claim to be Lean Experts, few are willing to commit to spend the time on the floor with the team for proper oversight and implementation. My career is about implementing these changes, making mistakes, regrouping and moving forward with the team. This is possible…and you may miss the one time in you businesses existence to reinvent and retool.
